Giza: Tombs along the entrance to the Great Pyramid  (Lepsius, Denkmäler, 1848)

Fig.1: Tombs lining the entranceway to the Great Pyramid at Giza (Lepsius, Denkmäler 1848).

This drawing, published by Lepsius in 1848 in the first volume of the Denkmäler aus Aegypte und Aethiopia (Monuments of Egypt and Ethiopia), shows a number of tombs along the entrance road to the Pyramid of Cheops. Many of these tombs, whose architecture and inscriptions were described in the Denkmäler, date from the Old Kingdom.
