This calotype print represents one of the earliest known photographs of the Temple at Dendera, taken by Maxime du Camp in 1849. De Camp, who toured Egypt with the novelest Gustave Flaubert in 1848-9, used the calotype paper negative method to produce the first comprehensive set of photographs of ancient Egyptian sites.
