Hilda and Flinders Petrie were married in 1897, about the time of this photo. Hilda, who accompanied Flinders Petrie on expeditions in Egypt and the Near East for the next 40+ years, working as both artist and site administrator, was 19 years younger than him. After Flinder's death in 1942, Hilda Petrie edited and completed several site reports for publication.
