Cynodont phylogeny

Cynodont phylogeny (after Botha et al 2007)

This cladogram shows the ancestral relations or phylogeny of Cynodonts, a group of therapsids or "mammal-like reptiles" whose fossil remains extended from the Late Permian to the Middle Triassic period.  They are among the few Late Permian synapsid groups to survive the massive extinctions occurring at about 252 mya at the Permian-Triassic boundary, as represented by several genera of Eucynodontia, which lived well into the Middle Triassic.
