Hyaenadon cayluxi skull

Skull of Hyaenadon cayluxi (after)

Hyaenadon ("hyena-tooth") was an ancient carnivore from North America, Eurasia, and Africa,  the type genus of the Hyaenodont family which lived from the Eocene through the middle Miocene periods.

Hyaenadons varied in size from that of a large cat to up to almost 10 feet long. Their body was relatively long and robust, and their skull was large with a narrow snout. They preyed upon herd species such as Mesohippus, a primitive horse, and early camels. Some species of Hyaenadon were among the largest carnivores of their time.
