Patranomodon skull

 Skull of Patranomodon (after ).

Patranomodon  was an anomodont ("toothless") therapsid found in the lowest biozone of the Beaufort Group, in the Karoo Basin of South Africa, dating from the Middle Permian at about 265 mya. The name comes from patr- "father of anomodonts."  The type skull was discovered by Rubidge and Hopson (1990) in the Eodicynodon Assemblage Zone of the Karoo Basin.

While the most abundant remains of Patranomodon have been found on the Eastern Cape of South Africa, it has also been found in  Europe, China, and India, showing extensive migration of the genus. Patranomodon belongs to the Therapsid clade, the suborder Anomodontia, and the clade Chainosauria.
