Lahun: 12th Dynasty Pyramid of Senesret II (1844)

Pyramid of Senesret II at Lahun (Denkmaler v.1, 1849).

This lithograph from the German Expedition of 1844-7 shows the eroded condition of the Pyramid of Senesret II at Lahun. Senusret II reigned at Lahun from 1897-1878, during the 12th Dynasty.  Originally the pyramid was covered by a facing of cut limestone blocks. Over centuries these were removed for reuse elsewhere, and exterior portions of the unfired bricks began to erode and have accumulated around the base.
