Abu Gorab: 5th Dynasty sun temple of Niusette
    .

Reconstruction of the sun temple of Niusette in Abu Gorab (Maspero)

Abusir, located immediately north of Saqqara on the edge of the desert, contained a number of pyramids, temples, and a large 5th Dynasty necropolis.

1 km north of Abusir is the town of Abu Gorab, where two large sun temples were built in the 5th Dynasty dedicated to Ra, the sun god. These include the sun temple of Userkaf, the first king of the dynasty, and the sun temple of Niuserre. Based on fieldwork at the site in the early 1900s, Maspero made the reconstruction shown here of the temple of Niusette. Prominently shown is an obelisk mounted on a platform, facing an altar.
