Amelia B. Edwards (1831-1892) was a British author who wrote both novels and travel accounts, including two popular books about Egypt entitled 1000 Miles up the Nile (1877) and Pharoahs, Fellahs, and Explorers (1891). She also translated from the French the Manual of Egyptian Archaeology and Guide to the Study of Antiquities in Egypt by Gaston Maspero. She was dedicated to the study of Egyptian antiquities and became a major supporter of archaeologists in Egypt.

Edwards founded the Egyptian Exploration Society in 1881, and with it the Egypt Exploration Fund, which supported the work of Petrie and other archaeologists for decades. She also endowed the Egyptology Library at the University of London.
