Lahun: Pyramid of Senusret II (12th Dynasty)  .

Aerial view of the 12th Dynasty pyramid of Senusret II (1897-1878 BC) at Lahun.

This view shows the entire core of the pyramid at Lahun as composed of a solid mass of mud bricks. Originally this was covered by a facing of cut limestone blocks. Once the   limestone facing was removed (probably over centuries for reuse elsewhere), the exterior portions of the unfired bricks began to erode and disintegrate, and vast amounts of eroded clay and sand materials have since accumulated around the base.

Near the south side of the pyramid, at upper left, are several mastaba tombs of the royal family of Senusret II, who reigned at Lahun from 1897-1878.
