Lahun:  pyramid top    .

The upper part of the pyramid of Senusret II

The original mud brick construction of the pyramid at Lahun is shown in this image. When originally built for Senusret II (1897-1878 BC), the brick core was covered with limestone facing. Over the centuries, these cut limestone blocks were all removed and carried away to be used elsewhere, leaving only the original mud brick construction.

Last to be removed were the limestone blocks at the top, where the mud bricks appear virtually unweathered, compared with the eroded slopes of the sides beneath.
