Karnak: Temple colonnade (1858 photo)    .

Karnak Colonnade (photo: Frith 1858).

The colonnade at Karnak was the starting point for ceremonial processions on major festival days. A processional route through the temple was built by Amenhotep III (Akhenaten; 1353-1335 BC).

This photograph by Francis Frith shows the colonnade exterior in 1858.
