Map of Egypt with major sites

Map of Egypt, between the Nile Delta and Lower Nubia (Athena Review Image Archive)..

Lower Egypt includes the Nile Delta, which extends from Cairo (near Memphis) to the mouth of the Nile near Alexandria. Lower Egypt also includes the Fayum Region west of the Nile between Saqqara and Oxyrhynchus, filled with settlements  from the Ptolemaic and Roman eras (330 BC-AD 400).

Upper Egypt extends from the area just north of Beni Hassan, south to Aswan where the the first Nile cataract or fall line is reached. There begins Lower Nubia, which extends from Aswan south to today's region of northern Sudan.
