Nice-Cimiez: The Roman Amphitheater

Roman amphitheater at Nice-Cimiez (photo: Athena Review).

The amphitheater, located at the north end of the archaeological park of Nice-Cimiez, was completed during the Severan period (AD 193-217). It replaced an earlier version of a theater made of wood.

The vaulted masonry structure seen today had separate seating sections for legionary officers and enlisted men, reached by different entrances.
